Meta looks to draw more teen users as Horizon Metaverse App struggles

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms Inc. META 2.99% increase; green up pointing triangle is making changes to its Horizon Worlds metaverse app in order to attract more teens and young adults. The company has been working to improve the design of the service, According to a memo sent to the team working on the project.
The memo says that part of the new plan is to make Horizon available to teens ages 13 to 17. At the moment, only people over 18 can use the app. People who know about the situation say that a teen version of Horizon could come out as soon as March.

Gabriel Aul, vice president of Horizon, sets the team’s aims for the first half of 2023 in a document titled “Horizon 2023 Goals and Strategy,” with the primary objective being to boost user retention, particularly among teens and young people. Mr. Aul said that these generations will be the genuine digital citizens of the metaverse since they have grown up smoothly interacting with technology and communicating with others remotely.

“Today our competitors are doing a much better job meeting the unique needs of these cohorts,” Mr. Aul said in the memo, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. “For Horizon to succeed we need to ensure that we serve this cohort first and foremost.”
