Meta Expects 2023 Rugby World Cup to Reignite Metaverse Effort

Meta Platforms will offer immersive experiences of the 2023 Rugby World Cup throughout its legacy apps. Meta has always been a part of the metaverse news.

The 2023 Rugby World Cup is brought to the metaverse by Meta. The firm will utilize the tournament to provide immersive experiences throughout its legacy products, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Meta believes the change could provide fans with more opportunities to appreciate the sport. Meta is the tournament’s official social media service company.

What is the purpose of Meta campaign?

The campaign is launched in partnership with BETC Paris, Havas Play, and Unit to demonstrate how the metaverse technology can immerse fans in virtual and augmented reality on the playing field.

Commenting on the partnership, Olivier Apers, creative director at BETC Paris said: “It has been a pleasure working with the teams at Meta on these augmented experiences. While the metaverse isn’t here yet, we’re excited by its potential to bring excitement for the fans around the Rugby World Cup 2023.”

As a result of its investments in the metaverse, Meta has come under scrutiny from its shareholders. Business Insider estimated that the corporation had spent over $36 billion on metaverse-related projects over the course of the previous five years. Meta spent an estimated $19 billion in 2022 and is expected to invest a comparable amount this year.

what will happen next?

Despite devoting approximately 20% of its resources to the business, the company has been unable to make meaningful headway.

Wall Street Journal discovered, after gaining access to internal meta documents, that Horizon Worlds, the company’s primary Metaverse product, failed to retain customers for more than a year.

Could sports help with this? Fans are loyal to their teams and athletes, which is why a lot of web3 companies are going after the sports industry to get people to use their platforms. Meta could see how well it could use sports in the metaverse to support its campaign.

Several reports from last year said that by the year 2030, the metaverse could be worth trillions of dollars. Due to the effects of the crypto winter, however, new reports put the number at about $700 billion.
