Trip Hawkins, a former Apple executive who built the company that made the best-selling sports videogame series “FIFA,” has joined a Web3 company that wants to compete with popular blockchain games like Axie Infinity. In the metaverse news today, the name Hawkins comes up.
Hawkins says that the man who made Electronic Arts will become a co-founder of Games for a Living (GFAL) and be in charge of the group’s security.
GFAL makes games for consoles, desktop computers, and mobile devices that work with Web3 technology, also known as blockchain.
Since more people are likely to use bitcoin for Web3 games, interest in it has grown over the past year. Players can buy, sell, and trade in-game goods in these games.
The popular NFT game Axie Infinity is supported by Animoca Brands, a blockchain gaming company based in Hong Kong. In 2022, the company raised more than $500 million.
Hawkins said on Thursday that Web3 is a doorway to the metaverse. And if we are going to make a metaverse, its economy should be more like the one in the real world.
Even though “cyberwallets” are easier to hack, security problems still exist, and developers are trying to make up for slow growth and expensive app store fees by making their platforms more diverse.
Manel Sort, a former King executive, started GFAL in 2021 in Barcelona. After its most recent round of fundraising the year before, the company was worth 13.2 million euros ($13.96 million) after the money was put in.
